A little about Therapy With Kay...

Hi, I'm Kay

My passion is helping people go from feeling stuck, lost, overwhelmed or traumatised to feeling happier, coping better, becoming healthier and living the life they want.

What could this mean to you?

Less worry, stress or low moods, improved relationships with yourself and others, perhaps more self-esteem and confidence, better sleep and a healthier mindset or maybe it’s about putting the past behind you once and for all.

I help people work out the direction they want to go and then support them to start heading there!

I truly believe your therapy should be tailored especially around you - no ticky boxes or one size fits all therapy here, your mental health and wellbeing are the priority.

I'm a Pluralistic Counsellor, I'm also trauma informed - all this means is that I'm able to cater for your very unique and individual needs.

I have trained in many different types of therapies over the years, all of which can be adapted to suit you and what you need from therapy right now.

... and most importantly, I genuinely care!

First and foremost, you will never be a number in a huge faceless database for me - I have thankfully left the 'conveyor belt/revolving door therapy' of big organisations far behind me!

You are an individual; I will not only spend time genuinely listening to you in sessions but I will spend time thinking about you before we meet again - reflecting, researching, finding resources, planning our sessions and seeking out any relevant training that may help me, to help you feel better sooner.

I understand what it's like to be in therapy, I have personally been to therapy a few times in my life and each experience has been very different but valuable in it's own way.

It's made me more aware of just how scary therapy can be, how much work it can be and also how much better you can feel if the right relationship exists with your therapist.

Local workshops, classes and events across the UK...

I run various therapeutic workshops across the UK.

You can also find me at local events either fundraising, offering self-care tips and advice or running creative projects.

Usually my workshops are around 2 hours long and in a small, friendly group setting. These are scheduled throughout the year to help you build awareness, confidence, self esteem and emotional resilience skills.

Pre-Covid I ran a not-for-profit 'Art for Anxiety and Depression' monthly session in Redcar. I'm hoping to reopen this type of workshop in the future.

I've been featured live on Zetland FM and BBC Radio Tees talking about self care and wellbeing because I believe it really can help change your life for the better!

Ethical, insured and registered...

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), alongside The National Counselling Society (NCS) and UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) provide help and advice to counselling professionals in the UK.

I have undergone years of rigorous training, cerification and a competence exam with the BACP.

I am now also an Accredited Registered Member of the National Counselling Society.  (NCS22-02202)

I adhere to the BACP & NCS Ethical Guidelines and keep myself up to date with current research, legislation and changes within the profession.

I am of course also fully insured for all my therapeutic work within the UK.

Qualified and experienced and award winning...

I have been working as a self-employed Counsellor since 2017.

In Spring 2022 I won the 'Inspiring Women: Women in Business Award'

In 2020 I did an extended qualification to become a Clinical Supervisor, supporting other Counsellors in charities, organisations and in their own private practice.

Now with thousands of hours of face-to-face and online Counselling experience supporting individual clients with a wide variety of mental health issues, I have amassed a wealth of resources and experience to support you.

I have previously worked in the NHS, within GP surgeries, agencies and also IAPT Centres across Teesside whilst also running two very successful businesses of my own.

For 3 years I worked as a Specialist Counsellor for a Charity supporting survivors of rape, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse.

I want to be the best therapist I can possibly be for my clients!

I complete at least 30 hours of additional training each year and regularly spend weekends at workshops, seminars and specialised training events learning new techniques and skills.

Some of my training includes (but is not limited to):

  • Clinical and Creative Supervision Certificates (2020)
  • Sunderland University Level 6 BA. Counselling (1st class with Honours)
  • Teesside University Level 5 FdA. Counselling (with Merit)
  • MBACP Certificate of Proficiency in Private Practice
  • Trauma Informed Interventions for Sexual Violence and Abuse
  • Pre-trial Therapy Protocol
  • Guilt and Shame from a T.A Perspective Certificate
  • Certificate in Positive Psychology
  • Certificate in Life Coaching
